What can Digital Pen & Paper do for my company?
The Digital Pen is simply a device like a PC or printer that has functionality that we can access by sitting down and logging on. It is the software and intelligence in the mother board of a printer and drivers that do the valuable work. This is the same case with The Pen, as The Pen only really reads the dot pattern and records data. It is what we do with that data and how we use software to interpret those strokes that makes the difference.
If you have a process that is consistently not followed, digital pen and paper technology can help to improve this situation. With The Pen technology, we could build a form that the employee has to fill in completely in order for the next action to be performed.
On the other hand, you may need to ensure a time requirement is met - such as getting your data back from the field to bill the client. We can also use the software to action this for us. So in essence it is not about The Pen, it is about the solution provided behind the hardware. To guage whether a digital pen or workflow solution could be valuable, ask yourelf the following questions:
To gauge whether a digital pen or workflow solution could be valuable, ask yourself the following questions:-
- Does the process I’m thinking of affect the business? y/n
- Does the process I am thinking of have budget factored to support it? y/n
- Does the staff ever complain of any difficulties with that process? y/n
- Do I have a strategic goal to save money or become more efficient? y/n
- Have I looked at PDAs/tablets in the past? y/n
- Do my employees take more than 2 pages of notes a day? y/n
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, draw your form or put it into a format where you can clearly see all of the information which must be recorded.
Next map out all processes required to get the data to where it needs to be. Once you have done this you should be able to draw lines directly from the form to the end point without having more than one process, (i.e. fill in the form).
Every one of these steps costs you money. Even though this solution might cost more upfront, the running cost will be dramatically lower from day one, and will obviously continue to offer savings for the duration that you have the software installed.
